Community Grant Scheme

This Grants Scheme was started ten years ago under the Moray Firth LIFE Project. It is designed to help in a very practical way to take forward integrated coastal zone management at the local, community level and to encourage involvement by all sectors of the community.

 CGS2002 NossHead Habitat Improvement Project
Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) has supported this Scheme from the start, with additional funding over the years from Aberdeenshire Council, BG Group and The Crown Estate.  We are delighted that SNH has awarded at least a further £8,000 to help fund the 2010 scheme.

The MFP Community Grant scheme is aimed at local, not for profit groups such as community associations, youth groups, heritage and interest groups. Projects must relate to the management, interpretation, enjoyment or improvement of the Moray Firth and its natural environment, be of clear benefit to the local area and contribute to the local quality of life.

Isabella Fortuna school visits 2008Nine community projects around the Moray Firth received funding from the 2009 Community Grants Scheme. Projects supported included a trial investigation into the causes behind the rapid decline of sea trout stocks in the Moray Firth, using information found in fish scales; an exhibit exploring underwater sounds at the Spey Bay Wildlife Centre and trips on traditional sailing boats for school children whilst learning about the Firth's rich natural heritage.

These projects are due for completion by the end of January 2010.  For a full list of projects supported in 2009 follow the link at the top of the page. We will show you some of the results after the final reports have been submitted. Watch this space!

East Grampian Coastal Partnership- Community Grant Scheme

The East Grampian Coastal Partnership (EGCP) was set up in 2005 to aid the delivery of Integrated Coastal Zone Management on the East Grampian Coast. The EGCP is currently operating a Community Grant Scheme which offers grants of up to £1000 to non profit groups to improve the coast in their area from Kinnaird Head, Fraserburgh to the mouth of the River North Esk, St. Cyrus. Any project which will improve or benefit the coast will be considered for funding.  Previous successful projects include a local seafood recipe book, improved life guard provision, interpretation and funding towards harbour days.
