To help protect Scotland's wildlife, the Police need your support in providing evidence about wildlife crimes.
A new form has been launched by the Police National Wildlife Crime Unit (NWCU) to collate information in relation to suspected or actual crimes. The information provided will be vetted for possible inclusion in its UK wide database to help build up intelligence. The NWCU is a national body based in Berwick with a remit to collate and disseminate information to Police forces in the fight against wildlife crime. All information is worthwhile as it maybe the last piece of the jigsaw that is required.
A copy of the form can be downloaded in word format here.
Information could be about suspected cases of raptor poisoning, illegal import or export of animals and so on. Completed reports will be treated in the strictest confidence and should be sent to the NWCU via ukwildlifecrime@nwcu.pnn.police.uk
This NWCU form should NOT be used to report ongoing crimes, which should always be reported to your local Police Wildlife Crime Officer or your local police station, giving as much detail as possible. Crimes include:- deliberate or reckless harassment or disturbance to dolphins and other protected species, illegal shooting or poisoning, the illegal taking of birds from the wild, poaching or badger baiting.
Wildlife Crime Officers in the Moray Firth area are:-
Grampian Police Constables Dave Mackinnon, Doug Darling and Chris Page, Elgin - Tel: 0845 6005 700
Northern Constabulary Ch.Insp Paul Eddington, Inverness HQ - Tel: 01463 715555
