Open Meeting May 2015

A date for your diary - 18 May 2015 “Regional Marine Planning - Planning for the Future of the Moray Firth”, Thistle Hotel, Millburn Road, Inverness.

The Moray Firth Partnership is holding an open public meeting to discuss next steps in developing regional marine planning for the Moray Firth. We would be delighted if you could attend to contribute to these discussions. Please book your place online via EventBrite by 12/05/15. The event runs from 11.00 am to 4.30pm, with lunch, networking and the chance to view various displays. The outline programme can be read here (380kb pdf).

Scotland’s first National Marine plan has just been published and the Scottish Government recently selected the first pilot areas (Clyde and Shetland) to start work on developing Marine Planning Partnerships and to develop regional marine plans. Western Isles and Orkney are expected to follow next year. There is no exact timetable for the Moray Firth or other areas.

However, the development of a regional plan will be a long process, and Marine Scotland has encouraged regional areas to be proactive with this process. There is a lot that we could usefully look at now in terms of identifying what might work best for the Moray Firth area and setting out a timetable of what needs to be done over the next few years to achieve that and who can help take the process forward.

We will have a range of speakers followed by a discussion session. Questions such as:

o Do we need to start work on a Moray Firth Regional Marine Plan now?

o What are the likely timescales?

o What key elements should the first plan cover?

o Who should lead on developing the plan / setting up a Moray Firth “Marine Planning Partnership”?

o How could this be resourced?

o Who should lead the MPP and be responsible for implementing the regional marine plan?

o Next steps….

If you have any particular questions you wish to have discussed, please let us know as soon as possible so we can build this into the final format for the afternoon session. Please pass on this invitation to any others that may be interested in attending.

The Moray Firth Partnership AGM will be held immediately prior to the event, and is open to all. Please book via the same Eventbrite link.

We hope to have the pleasure of seeing you on the 18th May.
