Oil and Gas Operators
The following links provide more information on oil and gas operations in the Moray Firth.
Energy North (former North of Scotland Industries Group)
The North of Scotland is fast becoming the energy centre for Scotland with major untapped renewable resources around its coastline and mainland, the UK’s leading inspection, repair and maintenance facility (IRM) for the oil and subsea markets, and significant nuclear and hydro industries. This has resulted in a concentration within the area of renewables producers and service companies, and a supply chain for the Oil and Gas industries that contains both major and specialist contractors, whose services are much sought after by the producers and drilling contractors working within the North Sea area and overseas. Oil and gas operator contact details available via the web site.
Talisman Energy (UK) Ltd
Although no longer operating the Beatrice oilfield, Talisman maintains a presence in the Moray Firth with a base at the Nigg Oil Terminal where it undertakes ship- to- ship transfer and storage of crude oil. Perhaps better known in more recent years for spearheading the ambitious offshore wind farm demonstration project, located adjacent to the Beatrice oilfield some 25km from shore. This pilot project installed two prototype five megawatt turbines in water depths of up to 45 metres, with the aim of designing, constructing, installing and operating the very first deepwater windfarm! Ithaca Energy
In 2008 Ithaca leased the Beatrice oilfield, the pipeline to shore and the Nigg storage facility from Talisman for a minimum period of 3 years. The decommissioning obligations remain with Talisman. The Beatrice Field, in which Ithaca holds a 50% interest, is operated by Ithaca and is the largest oilfield in the Inner Moray Firth area. The onshore Nigg Oil Terminal processes and stores Beatrice area oil for shipment. The terminal has additional storage which Ithaca is currently renting to BP Oil on an annual basis. In addition the terminal possesses a sheltered deep water jetty which is hired out for Ship to Ship oil transfer operations. See the web site for more information on the Greater Beatrice Field and the other Moray Firth assests.
