Report of Ferintosh Community Council meeting held on 17th March 2008

The vice-chairman opened the meeting with a welcome and after receiving a few apologies and with the adoption of the minutes the meeting moved on to a review of all the items of work that are in progress. The result was to allocate all environmental projects to the Environment Group who will report back each month, thereby ensuring that priorities are allocated appropriately to the resources available. It was reported that the memorial to a drowning accident many years ago on the Monadh Mor will be unveiled next month hopefully on the Saturday 17th May at 14.30 and that improvements to the access to the site have been completed. Progress is being made on the design of the Culbokie Village signs and the planning for the establishment of a Community Market in Culbokie continues as more interest is being shown. The need for more publicity of local events has been identified and it is hoped that a Community Noticeboard at the Culbokie Post Office is not too far away from being a reality. The Community Council would be very interested in hearing from any one who would be interested in reviving the production of a community newsletter as “The Noticeboard” is still sorely missed. A “wish-list” of projects that could be financed from external funds or by the use of “Planning Gain / Community Benefit” funds provided by Developers was presented and members were asked to submit the top 5 preferences to the next meeting. The availability of £1000 from a Discretionary fund was passed to the Environment Group for the hoped-for development of a footpath in the Corntown area. Concern was expressed at the lack of maintenance carried out by Highland Council to their car park at the Culbokie Post Office and a letter will be sent to TEC Services inviting the Roads Engineer to a site meeting so that our requirements can be met, this being a long-running concern of this Council.
Our Community Councillor responsible for Planning matters reported that there was nothing contentious this month but it was pointed out that an Enforcement Notice had been issued to Norwood Homes to tidy up their site after the completion of Phase 1.
Our next meeting on the 21st April will be our AGM and this year there will be 5 vacancies to fill as 3 Councillors retire on our rotation basis and we carried 2 vacancies throughout the year. Anyone on the Electoral Roll for our area can be nominated, no special form is required just the signatures of the proposer and seconder and it would be especially helpful if we could have more representation form the Mulbuie area. The successful introduction of multi-member wards with the support of a Ward Manager means that the Community Council has a more important role to play in local affairs and greater influence in the decision making process as we are well supported by our Highland Councillors. Just 2 hours a month on the third Monday of the month is all that is required. Please notify our Secretary, Ann Acock, of your intention to be nominated; details are available on our website, www.morayfirth-partnership.org, click on the Community tab and then click on Ferintosh Community Council Index tab.

The next meeting will be Monday 21st April and details of the Community Council’s activities can be found on their website www.morayfirth-partnership.org and click on “Communities”.
