Ferintosh Community CouncilThe Ferintosh Community Council meet monthly in the new Culbokie School on the third Monday of the month, commencing at 7.00 pm. Members of the public are always welcome and please feel free to make a contribution to the debates.Ferintosh Community Council Report History was almost made at our AGM in April. For the first time in many, many years we have achieved a full house of Community Councillors, which meant that it came very close to having to hold the first election ever! For several years we have always had some vacancies but this year with 2 vacancies and 3 retirals to fill we weren’t hopeful but an increasing awareness of and acceptance of the work we are doing saw all 5 vacancies filled. True some retirees sought re-election which meant an assured continuance in knowledge and experience of Community Council affairs. Roger Piercy succeeded Colin Craig as Chairman, Colin having served for a good few years and fortunately he is prepared to carry on and represent Mulbuie as that Community’s sole representative. The new Highland Council ward system is showing immediate benefits in that the work of our community councillors is receiving extra support and encouragement, although in return we are finding ourselves being offered more opportunities to fill our spare time by getting involved in new projects! Our Environment Group enters its second year with an interesting range of projects on the cards but it would be helpful and encouraging if more people would come forward and support us in our discussions as to how to increase the benefits of environmental work. We are still keen to receive donations of plastic bottle tops for an art project that will take place in November; the aim being to allow the children of the community to create a one-off picture filling the floor of the Ferintosh Hall! An exciting and new project has been the creation of a Community Market. This was set up in collaboration with REAL, an educational project created in Inverness High School. This has been so successful in assisting Community Markets in Kirkhill, Evanton, and Strathpeffer that REAL received royal recognition with a visit from Prince Charles – quite an accolade. Our launch was on Saturday 17th May and was so successful it has given us the confidence to continue to hold further Markets on the third Saturday of the month in the Findon Hall, will we see you on 21st June, we hope so? It didn’t quite match up to Hugh Miller’s description of the Culbokie Tryst in his “Tales and Sketches” but then times have changed. We have been spending a lot of time over the past year discussing what we should be pressing for in the way of Community Benefit when housing developments take place within our area. An initial wish-list of 17(!) is slowly being whittled down to the 5 most realistic projects we would seek to gain from a development. Central to all these discussions has been the future use of the old Culbokie Primary School and we await developments with interest. As a result of these discussions we are supporting the setting up of youth facilities in the Culbokie area and the future is looking very interesting. We are very conscious that our work tends to be Culbokie orientated but it doesn’t have to be and the public out with Culbokie have only to contact their representatives and ask them for support for their pet projects etc. and it will be discussed and pursued.
